About Us

Illuminating the Complicated

So much has changed in the past 50 years in the field of professional lighting design.

Fifty years ago, we calculated average foot-candles on a workplane underneath linear fluorescent lighting in an empty room. Today, professional lighting design has become considerably more complicated. It encompasses a multitude of lighting technologies, integration with other building systems, a focus on human-centric design, advanced controls, and a commitment to sustainability. Therefore, our purpose is to support lighting professionals by advancing, supporting, promoting, and contributing to innovation, science, and engineering in lighting, including lighting for health, horticulture, architecture, and entertainment.

All Things Lighting® Association Purpose

  • To advance, support, promote, and contribute to innovation, science, and engineering in lighting, including lighting for health, horticulture, architecture, and entertainment.
  • To drive progress in lighting, professionals actively support, promote, and contribute to innovation, science, and engineering. In these ways, lighting professionals continuously enhance our lives and surroundings.

All Things Lighting® Association Goals

With a focus on principles and practices, the organization encourages in-depth analyses and abundant references to scientific literature. By providing a platform for professionals to connect, All Things Lighting® Association facilitates meaningful discussions on a wide range of lighting-related topics. Members of All Things Lighting® Association engage in comprehensive conversations that drive the field forward.

Lighting Uniformity in Horticulture

Written in 2015, “Greenhouse Design and Control” (Ponce et al. 2015) is extraordinarily comprehensive in its coverage of greenhouse design issues, from site selection through structural load bearing analysis and ventilation technologies to greenhouse automation using adaptive neural fuzzy inference systems. On the topic of greenhouse lighting, however, it has only this to say: “The light level in the greenhouse should be adequate and uniform for crop growth.”

In Memory of Ian Ashdown

With intense sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved friend, Ian Ashdown, PEng (Ret), FIES, Senior Scientist and co-founder of SunTracker Technologies Ltd.

Ian’s profound passion and dedication to lighting, unwavering commitment to scientific integrity, and remarkable expertise have left an indelible mark throughout his extraordinary career spanning over four decades. His contributions encompassed a wide range of academic articles, lighting standards, and software developments.

Beyond his renowned reputation as an engineer and scientist in the lighting field and beyond, Ian possessed a remarkable spirit of compassion. He selflessly assisted numerous individuals personally and professionally throughout their journeys.

Ian’s departure has left an immeasurable void; we deeply feel his absence. However, SunTracker Technologies remains unwavering in its dedication to preserving and advancing Ian’s exceptional legacy within the lighting community and beyond.
